SUMMARY:Christmas
DESCRIPTION:Christmas (or the Feast of the Nativity) is an annual festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ\, observed primarily on December 25[a] as a religious and cultural celebration among billions of people around the world.[2][10][11] A feast central to the Christian liturgical year\, it is preceded by the season of Advent or the Nativity Fast and initiates the season of Christmastide\, which historically in the West lasts twelve days and culminates on Twelfth Night.[12] Christmas Day is a public holiday in many of the world’s nations\,[13][14][15] is celebrated religiously by a majority of Christians\,[16] as well as culturally by many non-Christians\,[1][17] and forms an integral part of the holiday season centered around it. \nThe traditional Christmas narrative\, the Nativity of Jesus\, delineated in the New Testament says that Jesus was born in Bethlehem\, in accordance with messianic prophecies.[18] When Joseph and Mary arrived in the city\, the inn had no room and so they were offered a stable where the Christ Child was soon born\, with angels proclaiming this news to shepherds who then further disseminated the information.[19] \nAlthough the month and date of Jesus’ birth are unknown\, the church in the early fourth century fixed the date as December 25.[20][21][22] This corresponds to the date of the winter solstice on the Roman calendar.[23] Most Christians celebrate on December 25 in the Gregorian calendar\, which has been adopted almost universally in the civil calendars used in countries throughout the world. However\, part of the Eastern Christian Churches celebrate Christmas on December 25 of the older Julian calendar\, which currently corresponds to January 7 in the Gregorian calendar. For Christians\, believing that God came into the world in the form of man to atone for the sins of humanity\, rather than knowing Jesus’ exact birth date\, is considered to be the primary purpose in celebrating Christmas.[24][25][26] \nThe celebratory customs associated in various countries with Christmas have a mix of pre-Christian\, Christian\, and secular themes and origins.[27] Popular modern customs of the holiday include gift giving; completing an Advent calendar or Advent wreath; Christmas music and caroling; viewing a Nativity play; an exchange of Christmas cards; church services; a special meal; and the display of various Christmas decorations\, including Christmas trees\, Christmas lights\, nativity scenes\, garlands\, wreaths\, mistletoe\, and holly. In addition\, several closely related and often interchangeable figures\, known as Santa Claus\, Father Christmas\, Saint Nicholas\, and Christkind\, are associated with bringing gifts to children during the Christmas season and have their own body of traditions and lore.[28] Because gift-giving and many other aspects of the Christmas festival involve heightened economic activity\, the holiday has become a significant event and a key sales period for retailers and businesses. The economic impact of Christmas has grown steadily over the past few centuries in many regions of the world. \nSource by Wikipedia

SUMMARY:Navratri Festival
DESCRIPTION:Navaratri[a] is a Hindu festival that spans nine nights (and ten days) and is celebrated every year in the autumn. It is observed for different reasons and celebrated differently in various parts of the Indian cultural sphere.[3][1] Theoretically\, there are four seasonal Navaratri. However\, in practice\, it is the post-monsoon autumn festival called Sharada Navaratri that is the most observed in the honor of the divine feminine Devi (Durga). The festival is celebrated in the bright half of the Hindu calendar month Ashvin\, which typically falls in the Gregorian months of September and October.[3][4] \nIn the eastern and northeastern states of India\, the Durga Puja is synonymous with Navaratri\, wherein goddess Durga battles and emerges victorious over the buffalo demon Mahishasur to help restore Dharma. In the northern and western states\, the festival is synonymous with “Rama Lila” and Dussehra that celebrates the battle and victory of god Rama over the demon king Ravana.[1] In southern states\, the victory of different goddesses\, of Rama or Saraswati is celebrated. In all cases\, the common theme is the battle and victory of Good over Evil based on a regionally famous epic or legend such as the Ramayana or the Devi Mahatmya.[3][4] \nCelebrations include worshipping nine goddesses in nine days\, stage decorations\, recital of the legend\, enacting of the story\, and chanting of the scriptures of Hinduism. The nine days are also a major crop season cultural event\, such as competitive design and staging of pandals\, a family visit to these pandals and the public celebration of classical and folk dances of Hindu culture.[5][6][7] Hindu devotees celebrate Navratri by fasting. But\, fasting is not the correct way to please Maa Durga during Navratri or Shradha Navratri. Holy Bhagavad Gita has also denied fasting. It is clearly mentioned in Holy Bhagavad Gita Adhyay 6 Shlok 16 that this Yog Sadhna is not successful for those who sleep too much or don’t sleep\, nor for those who eat too much or don’t eat\,i.e.\, fasting. That’s the reason we did not get the true fruits of Worship.[8] On the final day\, called the Vijayadashami or Dussehra\, the statues are either immersed in a water body such as river and ocean\, or alternatively the statue symbolizing the evil is burnt with fireworks marking evil’s destruction. The festival also starts the preparation for one of the most important and widely celebrated holidays\, Diwali\, the festival of lights\, which is celebrated twenty days after the Vijayadashami or Dussehra or Dashain.[9][10][1] \nSource By Wikipedia

SUMMARY:Merdeka Day
DESCRIPTION:Independence Day (Malay: Hari Merdeka\, also known as Hari Kebangsaan or “National Day”)\, is the official independence day of Federation of Malaya. It commemorates the Malayan Declaration of Independence of 31 August 1957\, and is defined in Article 160 of the Constitution of Malaysia.[1] The day is marked by official and unofficial ceremonies and observances. \nThe observation of 31 August as Malaysia’s national day is the cause of some controversy\, due to calls to prioritize the celebration of Hari Malaysia (Malaysia Day) on 16 September instead. Hari Malaysia commemorates the formation of Malaysia in 1963\,[2] when North Borneo\, Sarawak\, and Singapore federated with the existing states of Malaya to form Malaysia.[3] Some\, especially people from East Malaysia\, argue that it is illogical to celebrate 31 August 1957 as Malaysia’s national day when Malaysia was only created in 1963.[4][5] Supporters of Hari Merdeka argue that “the Federation” as defined in Article 160 of the Constitution of Malaysia is the “Federation of Malaya” that was established in 1957. \nSource by Wikipedia

SUMMARY:Awal Muharram
DESCRIPTION:Awal Muharram\n The Islamic New Year (Arabic: رأس السنة الهجرية‎\, Raʿs as-Sanah al-Hijrīyah)\, also called the Hijri New Year or Arabic New Year\, is the day that marks the beginning of a new Hijri year\, and is the day on which the year count is incremented. The first day of the Islamic year is observed by Muslims on the first day of the month of Muharram. The epoch (reference date) of the Islamic era was set as 622 Common Era (CE)\, the year of the emigration of Muhammad and his followers from Mecca to Medina\, known as the Hijra.[1] All religious duties\, such as prayer\, fasting in the month of Ramadan\, and pilgrimage\, and the dates of significant events\, such as celebration of holy nights and festivals\, are calculated according to the Islamic calendar. \nWhile some Islamic organizations prefer determining the new month (and hence the new year) by local sightings of the moon\,[2] most Islamic institutions and countries\, including Saudi Arabia\,[3] follow astronomical calculations to determine future dates of the Islamic calendar. There are various schemas for calculating the tabular Islamic calendar (i.e. not based on observation)\, which results in differences of typically one or even two days between countries using such schema and those that use lunar sightings. For example\, the Umm al-Qura calendar used in Saudi Arabia was reformed several times in recent years. The current scheme was introduced in 1423 AH (15 March 2002).[4] \nA day in the Islamic calendar is defined as beginning at sunset. For example\, 1 Muharram 1432 was defined to correspond to 7 or 8 December 2010 in official calendars (depending on the country). For an observation-based calendar\, a sighting of the new moon at sunset of 6 December would mean that 1 Muharram lasted from the moment of sunset of 6 December to the moment of sunset of 7 December\, while in places where the new moon was not sighted on 6 December 1 Muharram would last from the moment of sunset of 7 December to the moment of sunset of 8 December.[5] \nSource by Wikipedia

SUMMARY:Hari Raya Haji
DESCRIPTION:Hari Raya Haji\n Eid al-Adha (Arabic: عيد الأضحى‎\, romanized: ʿīd al-ʾaḍḥā\, lit. ‘Feast of the Sacrifice’\, IPA: [ʕiːd alˈʔadˤħaː]) is the latter of the two Islamic holidays celebrated worldwide each year (the other being Eid al-Fitr)\, and considered the holier of the two. Also called Tabaski\, it honours the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son Ismael as an act of obedience to God’s command. (The Jewish and Christian religions believe that according to Genesis 22:2\, Abraham took his son Isaac to sacrifice.) Before Ibrahim could sacrifice his son\, however\, Allah provided a lamb to sacrifice instead. In commemoration of this intervention\, an animal (usually a sheep) is sacrificed ritually. One third of its meat is consumed by the family offering the sacrifice\, while the rest is distributed to the poor and needy. Sweets and gifts are given\, and extended family are typically visited and welcomed.[5] \nIn the Islamic lunar calendar\, Eid al-Adha falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah\, and lasts for four days. In the international (Gregorian) calendar\, the dates vary from year to year\, shifting approximately 11 days earlier each year. \nSource by Wikipedia

SUMMARY:Hari Gawai
DESCRIPTION:Gawai Dayak Day (Jawi script: ݢاواي دايق) is an annual festival celebrated by Dayaks in Sarawak\, Malaysia and West Kalimantan\, Indonesia on May 31 and June 1. The festival is a public holiday in Sarawak and a religious and social event recognized since 1957. Hari Gawai Dayak is a concept brought to you by radio producers Tan Kingsley and Owen Liang from the Dayak community. The British colonial government refused to recognize Dayak Day until 1962. They simply called it Sarawak Day by involving all Sarawakians as national day\, regardless of ethnic origin. On June 1\, 1963\, Datuk Michael Buma\, a native of Betong\, organized the first Gawai Dayak Day celebration at his house in Siol Kandis\, Kuching. [1] On 25 September 1964\, Sarawak Day was gazetted as a public holiday to announce the formation of the Federation of Malaysia. This public holiday was first celebrated on June 1\, 1965 and became a symbol of the unity\, aspirations and hopes of the Dayak community. The festival is celebrated as a day of thanksgiving for the bountiful harvest and time to plan a new planting season. \nSource by Wikipedia \nLocation : Sarawak

DESCRIPTION:Harvest Festival\nKaamatan or Pesta Kaamatan is a form of harvest festival celebrated annually in the state of Sabah in Malaysia. It is normally celebrated by the ethnic Kadazan-Dusuns\, as well as by other related ethnic groups in the state\, and lasts for the whole of the month of May\, ending with a public holiday on a date selected by a priestess known as the bobohizan.[1][2]:417 \nA beauty pageant known as Unduk Ngadau will be held and it ends the harvest festival with a newly crowned Unduk Ngadau in the annual host district\, Penampang. The Harvest Festival comes under the ambit of what is known as Momolianism\, the belief system and life philosophy of the Kadazan-Dusun. There is also a dance performance called the Sumazau\, a singing contest called Sugandoi\, a bodybuilding competition\, and other arts and crafts performances. Competitions such as hitting the gong and folk sports have also become one of the main events in this festival. \nPopular drinks during the festival are tapai and Kinomol\, which is a traditional alak drink. Tapai is drunk from a small bamboo vessel known as a sumbiling or from special glasses called singgarung\, likewise made from bamboo.[3] \nSource By Wikipedia \nLocation : Sabah

SUMMARY:Labour Day
DESCRIPTION:Labour Day (Labor Day in the United States) is an annual holiday to celebrate the achievements of workers. Labour Day has its origins in the labour union movement\, specifically the eight-hour day movement\, which advocated eight hours for work\, eight hours for recreation\, and eight hours for rest. \nFor most countries\, Labour Day is synonymous with\, or linked with\, International Workers’ Day\, which occurs on 1 May. SUMMARY:Qingming Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Qingming festival\, also known as Tomb-Sweeping Day in English (sometimes also called Chinese Memorial Day or Ancestors’ Day)\,[2][3] is a traditional Chinese festival observed by the Han Chinese of mainland China\, Taiwan\, Hong Kong\, Macau\, Malaysia\, Singapore\, Indonesia\, Thailand and by the Chitty of Malaysia and Singapore. It falls on the first day of the fifth solar term of the traditional Chinese lunisolar calendar. This makes it the 15th day after the Spring Equinox\, either 4\, 5 or 6 April in a given year.[4][5][6] During Qingming\, Chinese families visit the tombs of their ancestors to clean the gravesites\, pray to their ancestors and make ritual offerings. Offerings would typically include traditional food dishes and the burning of joss sticks and joss paper. The holiday recognizes the traditional reverence of one’s ancestors in Chinese culture. \nThe Qingming Festival has been observed by the Chinese for over 2500 years. It became a public holiday in mainland China in 2008. In Taiwan\, the public holiday was in the past observed on 5 April to honor the death of Chiang Kai-shek on that day in 1975\, but with Chiang’s popularity waning\, this convention is not being observed. A similar holiday is observed in the Ryukyu Islands\, called Shīmī in the local language. \nIn mainland China\, the holiday is associated with the consumption of qingtuan\, green dumplings made of glutinous rice and Chinese mugwort or barley grass. A similar confection called caozaiguo or shuchuguo\, made with Jersey cudweed\, is consumed in Taiwan. \nSource by Wikipedia

SUMMARY:Penang's Thai New Year Songkran Water Festival
DESCRIPTION:Songkran\, also known as the Thai Water Festival\, is a traditional Thai Festival to mark the New Year. Is also celebrated in Penang\, notably along Lorong Burma in Pulau Tikus\, where both the Thai Reclining Buddha temple and the Burmese Temple celebrate with gusto. The now almost-destroyed historic hamlet of Kampong Siam (Thai Village) is nearby; this was once the heart of the Thai and Burmese  communities of Penang.  Both temples are worth visiting at any time\, the Thai one for its long reclining Buddha\, and the Burmese one for its intricate gilding and lattice work. Normally oases of calm lying between two busy roads\, Songkran brings an entirely different atmosphere\, one of noise\, gaiety and playfulness. \nSource By Penang Free Street \nLocation :  24\, Jalan Burma\, Pulau Tikus\, 10250 George Town\, Pulau Pinang

SUMMARY:Chinese New Year
DESCRIPTION:Chinese New Year\nLunar New Year (traditional Chinese: 農曆新年\, 中國新年; simplified Chinese: 农历新年\, 中国新年; pinyin: nónglì xīn nián\, zhōngguó xīn nián) is the festival that celebrates the beginning of a new year on the traditional lunar calendar. In Chinese culture and East Asian countries\, the festival is commonly referred to as the Spring Festival (traditional Chinese: 春節; simplified Chinese: 春节; pinyin: Chūn Jié) as the spring season in the lunisolar calendar traditionally starts with lichun\, the first of the twenty-four solar terms which the festival celebrates around the time of.[2] Marking the end of winter and the beginning of the spring season\, observances traditionally take place from New Year’s Eve\, the evening preceding the first day of the year to the Lantern Festival\, held on the 15th day of the year. The first day of Lunar New Year begins on the new moon that appears between 21 January and 20 February.[3] In 2021\, the first day of the Lunar New Year will be on Friday\, 12 February\, which is the Year of the Ox. \nLunar New Year is one of the most important holidays in China\, and has strongly influenced Lunar New Year celebrations such as the Losar of Tibet (Tibetan: ལོ་གསར་) and of China’s neighbouring cultures\, including the Korean New Year (Korean: 설\, seol)\, and the Tết of Vietnam.[4] It is also celebrated worldwide in regions and countries with significant Overseas Chinese or Sinophone populations\, including Singapore\,[5] Indonesia\, Malaysia\, Myanmar\,[6] Thailand\, Cambodia\, the Philippines\,[7] and Mauritius\,[8] as well as many in North America and Europe.[9][10][11] \nLunar New Year is associated with several myths and customs. The festival was traditionally a time to honour deities as well as ancestors.[12] Within China\, regional customs and traditions concerning the celebration of the New Year vary widely\,[13] and the evening preceding Lunar New Year’s Day is frequently regarded as an occasion for Chinese families to gather for the annual reunion dinner. It is also traditional for every family to thoroughly clean their house\, in order to sweep away any ill-fortune and to make way for incoming good luck. Another custom is the decoration of windows and doors with red paper-cuts and couplets. Popular themes among these paper-cuts and couplets include that of good fortune or happiness\, wealth\, and longevity. Other activities include lighting firecrackers and giving money in red paper envelopes. For the northern regions of China\, dumplings are featured prominently in meals celebrating the festival. It often serves as the first meal of the year either at midnight or as breakfast of the first day. \nSource by Wikipedia \n

SUMMARY:Thaipusam
DESCRIPTION:Thaipusam or Thaipoosam (Tamil: தைப்பூசம்\, Taippūcam ?)\, is a festival celebrated by the Tamil community on the full moon in the Tamil month of Thai (January/February)\, usually coinciding with Pushya star\, known as Poosam in Tamil. The festival is also observed among Keralites and is vernacularly called Thaipooyam (Malayalam: തൈപ്പൂയം).[1] It is mainly observed in countries where there is a significant presence of Tamil community such as India\, Sri Lanka\, Malaysia\,[2] Mauritius\,[3] Singapore\,[4] South Africa\, Canada and other places where ethnic Tamils reside as a part of the local Indian diaspora population such as Réunion\, Indonesia\, Thailand\, Myanmar\, Trinidad and Tobago\, Guyana\, Suriname\, Jamaica and the other parts of the Caribbean. \nIt is a national holiday in many countries like Malaysia\, Sri Lanka\, Mauritius. In certain states of Malaysia and in the nations of Sri Lanka and Mauritius it is a government and a bank holiday.[citation needed] In Singapore \, it was previously a national holiday but was removed from the official list of national holidays to improve business competitiveness.[5] \nThe word Thaipusam is a combination of the name of the month\, Thai\, and the name of a star\, Pusam (Tamil word for Pushya). This particular star is at its highest point during the festival. The festival commemorates the occasion when Parvati gave Murugan (aka Kartikeya) a Vel “spear” so he could vanquish the evil demon Soorapadman and his brothers. It is also commonly believed that Thaipusam marks Murugan’s birthday; Some other sources suggest that Vaikhasi Vishakam\, which falls in the Vaikhasi month (May/June)\, is Murugan’s birthday.[6] \nSource from Wikipedia
