Time flies and we’re hitting the Chinese New Year for 2021. While we expect the festive vibes to be less exuberant than before due to the rise of the pandemic, people are still busy preparing for this annual celebration as a symbolism of a good beginning to kickstart a brand new year. Before we enter the exact day, there’s always a reunion dinner on the CNY eve.
Reunion dinner, in which family members coming back from different locations in the world to reunite and celebrate Chinese New Year together under the same roof, consists of different styles such as steamboat or house-cooked dishes and drinks as a complete set of meals. Typically, diners savour all the food as much as they could as a way to pamper their stomach, they also take yee sang right after.
Yee sang or yusheng refers to a reunion set for people to circle themselves up in a row to toss the Cantonese-style raw fish salad that consists of strips of raw fish, shredded vegetables, and sauces and condiments. Originated from Malaysia, this prosperity toss is a custom symbolising abundance, prosperity, and vigor.
In this article, we’re disclosing five hotels and restaurants for reunion dinner takeaways and delivery this CNY.

Despite the challenges of the pandemic, this year is a year of reflection for all Chinese citizens to relearn the importance of having togetherness and family-affection as the pillar of life. The applied SOP from the government is forbidding inter-state travel and cross-district celebrations at the moment. Distinct from that, citizens of the same household or relatives and friends within the radius of 10km are still allowed to enjoy their reunion meals together as long as they don’t exceed the limit of 15 people.
With that, we want to wish everyone a prosperous Chinese New Year. Enjoy your reunion meals to the fullest! If you are staying with family, take this chance to give thanks and be grateful; if you are staying outside and can’t go back, perhaps celebrate this significant custom with any friends who stay nearby. We believe this year’s CNY is still going to be a meaningful one even with the limitations.
