The COVID-19 outbreak shows no signs of stopping and now the Malaysia government has implemented a partial lockdown on the country which has thrown into the country into chaos. This results in many cancellations of flight for travellers or Malaysian who have already planned and booked for their flight tickets. This can be devastating. Here’s an easy way to get your flight ticket refund during this COVID-19 outbreak. 

 

AirAsia

Just like any other airline, AirAsia’s flight network has imposed a travel ban on guests either based on nationalities, the cities of origin, travel history, or the purpose of the travel. As a preventive measure, AirAsia is also cancelling several flights departing from and bound for Mainland China while offering provisions to guests with flight bookings to/from Hong Kong and Macau. 

For those whose travel plans are affected by the restrictions or cancellations, you can submit via AirAsia Virtual Allstar(AVA) the Airasia chatbot. In addition, guests who are involuntarily affected by restrictions or cancellations caused by the outbreak can choose to apply for a full refund on their fare, or change their flight dates, depending on the situation they find themselves in. Malaysia Airlines

Malaysia Airlines states that travellers who are affected by travel restrictions are entitled to a refund and rebooking. Eligible passengers travelling to or from South Korea or Japan can apply for a full refund credited to the original payment form if they hold a refundable ticket. Those with non-refundable tickets will be given a refund in the form of credits, which they can use for any future travel. 

Implemented on March 13, the airline is also allowing unlimited changes to flight dates free of charge, or changes in destination, which are subject to additional charges in fare differences. But keep in mind that, only bookings issued on or before March 31 are eligible for the new policy, provided the rebookings are made before May 31. Under the terms and conditions, the new travel date must be on or before December 31, and fare differences may apply.

 

Emirates Airlines

Just like Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia, Emirates also gives you the flexibility to reschedule your trip with no change fees. Note that any booking made on or before 31 March 2020 now comes with the option to adjust your travel dates at zero charges. If there is a difference in airfare or applicable taxes, due to the reissue/reroute of the ticket, an additional amount will be collected.

 

If you’re an Emirates Skywards Silver, Gold or Platinum member, you can take advantage of the added flexibility of retaining your membership status with just 80% of the travel requirements for your tier. You can also enjoy 20% more Tier Miles on your trips until 30 June. Also keep in mind that Change fees and reissue fees are not applicable to tickets issued on/before Tuesday 31 March 2020 and cancellation or refund fees are not applicable to bookings made between Saturday 7 March 2020 and Tuesday 31 March 2020, regardless of travel date. Etihad Airlines

In compliance with directives from UAE and other government agencies, or due to the impact on services of travel restrictions, Etihad Airways has suspended services to a number of destinations just like other airlines. Services on some other routes also have been reduced. For those due to fly before 30 June 2020, but whose flights have been cancelled, who have been directed or advised not to travel by their local authorities, or who are unable to commence or complete their journeys due to restrictions preventing their departure from or entry into other countries, travel can be rebooked for departures up to 30 June 2020, without standard change fees. Only one change is permitted.

Further changes will attract standard fees. Re-routing or re-booking can only proceed if there are no travel restrictions on intended routes. More information on their website.

 

Singapore Airlines

Just like any other airline, Singapore Airlines is waiving all rebooking fees for tickets issued on or before 15 March 2020, for travel up to 31 May 2020, with immediate effect. Customers can cancel their existing flight itineraries, retain the value of their tickets and rebook their travel at a later date, when they are able to firm up their new travel plans. The new flight itinerary should be completed by 31 March 2021. This new policy will allow customers the flexibility to defer their travel plans and applies to all bookings for travel up to 31 May 2020.
