Genting Highlands is definitely a hotspot for Malaysians and Singaporeans who are trying to escape the heat and the hustle and bustle of city life. In addition to Genting Casino, where it is possibly the only place to gamble legally in Malaysia, there are also theme parks around to keep your kids entertained. If you don’t already know by now, the transit to Genting Highlands can be quite a nuisance. I’m guessing that we’ve all heard a little about the seemingly endless journey up to Genting. So if you are planning a trip up, I would highly recommend you to hitch a driver. Besides hiring a private driver, (which is obviously the most convenient way, duh), here are a few other ways to get to Genting Highlands.

Getting to Genting from Kuala Lumpur International Airport 

The journey from Kuala Lumpur to Genting Highland takes about an hour. Whereas if you are travelling by air, the journey will take about 2 hours from KLIA/KLIA2. From the airport, you can either take the express bus or call for a taxi to get to Genting. 

4 Ways To Get To Genting  

Express Bus Services (Economical)

For those who prefer taking public transport, there are Genting Express Bus Service stations located at several locations – KLIA, Klang Valley, Northern/Southern Peninsula, Singapore etc. The more popular routes usually start from KL Sentral Station, with bus fares starting from RM 2.70 to RM 55. It is approximately a 1-hour journey if you are travelling from KL Sentral. 

Awana Skyway Cable Car (for an amazing view on your way up!)

Hop on a ride at Awana SkyWay, one of the best ways to travel up to Genting Highlands! It is located in the same building as Awana Bus Terminal, on Level 2. From Awana Station, the journey takes about 10 minutes. On your way up, Chin Swee Station is located mid-hill to the SkyAvenue Station, where you get to enjoy a free stop using the same ticket. Do remember to not lose your ticket as you will still need it to continue on with your journey either towards SkyAvenue or Awana stations. A one-way ticket for a Standard Gondola costs 9 Ringgit per pax, while the Glass Floor Gondola ticket costs 18 Ringgit per pax. You can purchase these tickets here. 

Self-Drive (Experience it first hand)

Another way to reach Genting is to drive up on your own. The route you would most likely use is through Kuala Lumpur to Gua Musang Highway (E33) route. Do be mindful of the steep mountain road towards the top. However, I would suggest first-time drivers to avoid driving up on your own as it may be quite dangerous especially during bad weather. A small tip when you are driving is to not over-rely on your GPS, and it is perfectly normal to get lost occasionally while on the road. If you end up missing an exit, do not panic, as there are at least seven routes up to Genting Highlands!

Hire a Private Driver (Best bet for an awesome experience for leisure or business)

The last option (which is also our top choice) especially for travellers who would prefer to travel in more comfort and privacy, is to, of course, hire a private driver. A regular taxi would usually cost you around 60-70 Ringgits, while an executive taxi would cost you around 150-200 Ringgits.

Well, alternatively… you can always call for your own private driver service if you would like to get a bang out of your buck. Not only will they be your private driver, but they will also be your very own tour guide, maximizing your whole travel experience. On top of that, you’d get to save on all the hassle of having to plan and research for your trip, and getting to enjoy your own personalized travel itinerary.
