It’s been a no-strange idea that people take Chinese food as their daily meals in the Chinese New Year season, especially seafood when more people are allowed to share the dishes. While the government is executing the MCO restrictions, diners are allowed for a maximum of 2-pax or take away instead. Hence, savouring seafood in times like this is still a valid choice.
If you are staying in Bayan Lepas and craving seafood to pamper your never-filling stomach, Hao You Seafood in Teluk Kumbar is definitely something you don’t want to miss. This seaside restaurant is located next to Lexus Suites Hotel (opposite Yang Cheng Primary School) and slightly hidden behind the alleyway. If you are driving from the airport’s direction, remember to slow down your car when you see Lexus Hotel as the junction into this seafood restaurant is just right before the hotel and hard to spot.
Below are a few photos of food I tried and was intrigued by their taste. Hope they would increase your urge to go for a mouth-showering experience as well.
1. Steamed Meat Crab
The tomato gravy might taste a little bit mild, but it still comes off delicious when you blend it with their home-made mantou (steamed bun). The crab shell itself is easily decorticated, and the meats are soft without the thick fishy smell. I personally would go for the second time if I’ve got a chance.
2. White Clam Shell
What’s fun about eating seafood if clamshells aren’t on the list? The White Clam Shell in Hao You Seafood is definitely a go-to as they aren’t too chewy and the spicy-salty flavour is eatable.
3. Fried Octopus
Fried octopus meat for snacks, anyone? There’s no doubt that the answer is a solid yes from all foodies, especially when the dish is fresh from the oven.
4. Mantis Prawn Meat
Here’s the only prawn worth having in the Bayan Lepas area. Certainly, there are other good prawn meats out there, but when it comes to the fried mantis prawn meat, there’ll be no doubt that the one offered at Hao You goes to the top list.
5. Red Snapper Hold Fish
Another gem that’s worth chewing is their renowned Red Snapper Hold Fish with Laksa flavour. It tastes extremely refreshing if you eat it along with their gravy and white rice.
6. Claypot Tofu with Seafood
Never forget to always savour food with vegetables, on top just dry meats and rice. Among all on the list, their Claypot Tofu is a good combination of veggies and seafood in a bowl. If you are having difficulty choosing a good side dish for your table, this set will definitely get you head over heels.
EXTRA: Satay!
If you still have enough space in your tummy, you should give their fried satay a shot. Not only that it’s larger than the usual street satay we could find in usual stalls, but the taste is beyond marvelous.
Overall, Hao You Teluk Kumbar Seafood is a good choice to consider, other than other best options in the Bayan Lepas district. If anyone ever crosses by that area and would like to get food to eat, one shouldn’t let slip of the chance to visit this restaurant.
