If you’re not local, chances are you might not even heard of the few food we’re going to introduce today. Recommended by our good friend, Curry Khoo, the Penang Tech-Startup mafia, these are the TOP 5 MUST TRY authentic local Penang food you might not know.


 1. Mee Sotong Special – Fort Cornwallis

When you are around George Town you can visit Fort Cornwallis Food Court (nearby Queen Victoria Memorial Clocktower) to try their Mee Sotong Penang, almost 90% of customers come here just for the Mee Sotong special, you can choose small plate with RM4 or larger portion only RM6.

2. Coconut Shake – Fort Cornwallis

After ordering Mee Sotong Special, we highly recommend you to order Coconut Shake for your drink, this coconut shake is a refreshing concoction of coconut water, sweet coconut flesh with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream on top.

3. Beef Noodle – 2828 Beef Noodle Cafe

2828 Cafe has been around for a long time, the famous food here is Beef Noodle, most of the people come here for Beef Noodle although there are other variety of foods. There are plenty of parking place around, easy to find parking.

Recommended: I highly recommend to go after 12.30pm, although you have to wait for sometime but the soup is definitely taste good.

4. Penang Laksa – Peng Hwa Laksa

There are many good Penang Laksa around, if you look for mid-wild laksa you can find it just beside Penang Chinese Girls’ High School. Other than Laksa, you can try their Deep Fried Pohpiah and Fried Char Koey Teow.

Recommended: The corner lot coffee shop is directly opposite Penang Chinese Girl’s High School. Very pack on weekends and public holidays.


5. Penang Duck Rice – Lorong Susu

If you tried Laksa and Beef Noodle and looking for rice, you can try Penang Duck Rice located at Lorong Susu. Suggested by Samlee blogger, you could order 1 plate combination of roasted pork, roasted duck, steamed chicken, Chinese sausage.
